IPYG: International Peace Youth Group

Culture Community Service

Share, understand, communication, and peace = IPYG and HWPL

IPYG contributes to the local community through language classes, cooking classes, and various volunteer projects, providing the basis for a global network through the participation of youth from many nations residing in Korea. These expat programs allow for our small efforts to establish connections and unity across the borders of our world.
Cooking Class
For those looking for a hands-on cooking experience to learn about various types of Korean food, and the culture conveyed through national dishes we offer a cooking class at the Bangbae Culture Center. Professional Korean chefs who volunteer their time and skill to teach others to enjoy the beauty of other cultures through food are the hosts and guides of this program.

The cooking classes are taught in English and Japanese. Classes are designed for foreigners in Korea, so they will be able to make a full Korean meal for their friends and families should they wish to share some of the culture they have lived in while abroad. Every aspect of a culture contains meaning, and by embracing more cultures of other nations we can share love, and peace. Participants and volunteers find common ground through these ongoing culturally focused programs, and get to share in a great in meal with our global family at the end of each class.
Sports Club
Our youth sports teams are located in several cities around Korea. There are teams belonging to each of the different major cities and volunteer coaches train them weekly for free. The sports currently being offered are judo, running, basketball, and of course, our most popular, soccer. Our soccer program has a men's and women's team which regularly play friendly matches and tournaments and our sports team coordinators are the organizers behind the Victory Cup Tournament that takes place nation wide on an annual basis.

At the heart of these sports programs is the desire to show the world how sports can effectively bring peace. It has proven to break the typical cultural, racist and discriminatory barriers that exist between players, and allows individuals whose nations might literally be at war to stand united on the sports field as a team, and off the field as friends.
Korean Class
We offer a continuous Korean Language Program for expats looking to learn a bit of Korean while they are living in the country. This class is focused on meeting the needs of the individuals who attend and students are separated out into fluency levels ranging from basic to advanced.

Language has a large role to play in our cultures, as it is part of our heritage and the main way in which we communicate with one another. In many instances it has the power to unite or divide people, as we can see in today's world amongst various nations separated by language barriers.

As you know it is one of our goals to minimize (and eventually remove) all the obstacles keeping nations separated and at war. This once a week Korean Language class is a fun way to be working toward making the culture gap smaller between expats in Korea and Korean citizens. All Languages classes are run by Korean Volunteers, some of which are qualified language teachers.
