HWPL: Moro-Islamic Liberation Force (MILF) Starts Deactivating its armed forces: Actual Peace Building Process Begins

In June 2015, 145 soldiers of Moro-Islamic Liberation Force (‘MILF’) were successfully decommissioned and began their process of integrating back into the society, from the lives of soldiers regularly facing life-and-death situations to the lives of realizing their potentials as youths. First batches of weapons were handed over to the government as a part of peace-building process. Philippines and the rest of the world now dearly await for the Bangsamore Basic Law to be enacted for the MILF to live harmoniously with the people. 

Chairman Lee of HWPL, together with Chairwoman Kim of IWPG and the peace delegation, visited Philippines for the fifth time upon the special invitation from Hon. Esmael Toto Mangudadatu, governor of Maguindanao Province. At the 2^nd Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace held in the Province, the two Chairpersons delivered momentous speeches on peace and unity and congratulated the day of the signing of the Mindanao Peace Agreement back in January 2014. The agreement brought a cease-fire of a 40-year conflict in Mindanao and indirectly influenced the final decision of decommissioning of MILF members. Supreme Court Justice Sheikh Khalifa B. Nando of MILF also gave a thoughtful speech especially to thank Chairman Lee for his tremendous efforts to bring peace in the region. In his speech, he referred Chairman Lee as ‘our friend in the name of peace’ and ‘unsung hero’ who has made this peace-talk possible. This splendid achievement through partnership and cooperation will continue to serve to bring forth peace not only in the Philippines but in the entire world.

HWPL calls end to wars, reign of global peace

The head of a South Korean-based organization on Tuesday called on all heads of the government to bring an end to war so that peace would finally prevail in the world.

Man Hee-lee, chairman of the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), a South Korean War veteran and peace advocate from Seoul, keynoted the 2014 World Peace Forum at the Asian Social Institute in Manila.

“Let us unite in our efforts to stop wars, pursue the restoration of peace by agreeing not to fight one another,” he said during a speech attended by an ecumenical gathering of preachers consisting of representative from Islam, Buddhism and Christian.

Lee said it is a duty of everyone to aspire for peace because death is a tragedy.

“I call on every person, man, woman and child to pick up the mantle of peace, make it a reality in our environment,” he said, as he called on the media to report and promote of the message of peace to the world.

“This is what mankind wants and what God wants. These are the works I did to convey my message.”

HWPL is an international organization with over 70 branches in South Korea and presence in 100 countries.

It counts among its subsidiaries the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), consisting of more than 128 youth organizations in 53 countries.

Lee is the No. 1 advocate for the unification of the two Koreas. He is in the country for the third time.

He said it was not coincidence that shortly after his arrival in the country on January 23 and having talked in Davao with Archbishop Antonio Ledesma and an Ulama of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), that the government would finally sign a peace agreement with the Moro rebels on January 25.

He said that in the course of his travels, he challenged many representatives of various religious groups, asking them why despite their claims that their religion is better than the other religions, not one of them can claim of being able to restore peace in the world.

“So, I believe there is only one God and one Will for all of us. It is not God’s will to create division and conflict and based on the scriptures, I don’t see anything there being said that we should fight one another.”

“So many conflicts because of so many religions, how can you say there is a light in the world when many religions speak of end of the world?”

Lee said the new generations of young people are not inheriting the biases and the pre-conceived notions of the old religions.

Lee said one way he does to promote peace is to ask world leaders, president, prime ministers, including heads of religious organizations to sign a peace agreement or a declaration of peace.

He said he asked them to become peace activists and peace messengers so that the world will become one.

What mankind needs most right now is peace. The Interfaith Leaders Peace Indaba 2014 brings together leaders and individuals from the different religions of South Africa as one united body working towards the cause of peace.

Religion must become the light of the world – this is a necessity for mankind to coexist and live peacefully.

The main objective of our organization is to gather leaders across religions – transcending racial, national, and cultural differences, working together to find a solution for peace within religion.

As we all know, a vast majority of conflicts in the world are unfortunately due to religious differences. This should cease to continue. Can we persist in killing young lives with the precious gift of life we have been given from heaven for national, religious or political gain? The most valuable thing given to us from heaven is our lives. Nothing in the world can be exchanged for a life.

This is why we believe that if world peace is to become a reality, it begins with the religious leaders. It is the spiritual leaders of the nations that must come together and put aside their differences first. So it is of the utmost importance for interfaith leaders to gather and engage in a realistic dialogue about peace.

The conference will also reflect on and harness partnerships between interfaith leaders across the nation, which will lead to uniting the religions of the world.

Dr Mary Anne Plaatjies van Huffel – Christian FaithDr Mary Anne Plaatjies van Huffel is a Professor in Ecclesiology and Church Polity at the University of Stellenbosch where she teaches Church Polity and Church History. She serves currently as the moderator of General Synod of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa and was chosen in 2013 as the Africa President of the World Council of Churches. She is the holder of two doctorates, namely in Systematic Theology (UNISA) an in Church Polity (University of Pretoria). She published mainly in accredited journals. Karen Barensche – Interfaith Panel Facilitator
Karen Barensche is the Executive Director of the South African Peace Alliance she co-founded in 2007. The organization is a member of the Global Alliance for Ministries and Infrastructures for Peace – GAMIP that advocates a Department of Peace be established in government, supporting local infrastructures for peace building and peace education. Karen currently serves as co-president on the board of directors for the Global Alliance for Ministries and Infrastructures for Peace, GAMIP, an NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland. As regional coordinator for Southern Africa she serves the United Religions Initiative, the largest grassroots based interfaith organization in the world, that holds consultative status at the UN, New York. Karen is a council member of the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative, CTII, working closely with religious communities promoting and organizing interfaith events and supporting social justice issues within local communities through mediation and civil society support. Karen currently serves on the Advisory Panel of the Western Cape Network for Community Peace and Development, an NGO she previously chaired for a number of years, that supports peace building through sport for peace, music, leadership skills development, youth development and peace education.

Sheikh Riad FataarThe first deputy president of the Muslim Judicial Counsel of South Africa and Principal of Husami Madrassa, Sheikh Riad Fataar is a well-respected leader in the Muslim community, promoting a life of value and high morals. Sheikh Riad has also been serving as an Imam at the Humasi Masjid for the past 8 years where he dutifully performs tasks of lecturing, assisting in family counselling and social welfare challenges.

Shri Kirti-bhai G. PandyaShri Kirti-bhai G. Pandya was fortunate enough to born in town called Dakor, which is one of the most pious pilgrimages of Hindu followers. Shri Kirti-bhai has attended and organized numerous prestigious spiritual events. By God’s grace his journey took him across the globe to deliver God’s message. His spirituality has afforded him the opportunities to fly to several different countries like New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Swaziland and now, South Africa. With his strong will to deliver God’s message and the art of Yoga, Shri Kirti-bhai G. Pandya has appeared on SABC 1, SABC 2 and SABC3. Shri Kirti-bhai has also written a book in native language and been inspired to write several plays.
